I think that in order to answer that question you need to understand the difference and ask yourself why you are buying it. I went online to research the difference between 10k yellow gold and other karat weights. I found out that 10k gold contains less actual gold than higher karat weights. It contains more copper than yellow 14k gold. This is what makes 10k yellow gold more durable than higher karat weights. 10k yellow gold is also cheaper to buy and not as valuable. I think that 10k yellow gold is a good choice if you want the item of jewelry to be very durable so that it can be worn often. 14k gold is also quite durable compared to 22k gold. Higher karat weights are good for jewelry that is purchased more for the purpose of investment than everyday wear.  I personally prefer yellow or white gold that is durable because it has either ten or fourteen karats since I see no point in having jewelry and not bothering to wear it.
